McNAIR, Milton H.

MILTON H. McNAIR Was born August 28, 1839, in Lebanon, Lebanon county, Pa. Receiving the education of the public schools, at the age of 17 he was apprenticed to Peter L. Weinier, Esq., of Lebanon, to acquire the trade of a machinist. He served three years, and has since followed that occupation. In 1862, being employed by the Penn. R. R. Co., he worked in their shops in Altoona, Pa., until 1864, when he began work for Sinker & Co., at Indianapolis, Ind., being engaged for them and for the Lafayette & Indianapolis R. H. Co. until 1865. Next we find him in the employ of Clark & Hunter, at Reading, Pa. then at Renova, Pa., for the Penn. H. R. Co. till August 20, 1867, when he entered the service of the Atlantic & Great Western Railroad Co. at Meadville, where he is still employed, being permanently located in the city. April 20, 1881, Mr. McNair enlisted in Co. G, 5th Reg. Penn. Volunteers, Capt. John Ulrich re-enlisted July 1, 1863, in Co. C, 48th Reg. P. S. M., Capt. John Reinoehe, served his time, and was discharged.

Becoming Greenback-labor candidate for Mayor of the city of Meadville, he was elected Feb’y 19th, 1878, and served until April 7th, 1879. Mr. McNair is the inventor of a tool for polishing cylinders and rings for which he obtained letters patent April 10, 1877. He was married Dec. 25th, 1872, to Miss Margarett Haverstock, of Mt. Eaton, Wayne Co., Ohio.
