Vernon L. Wood Taken By Death,

Veteran Jeweler Stricken by Heart Attack, Dies on Saturday Afternoon.

Vernon L. Wood, a Jeweler here for many years, succumbed to a heart attack at 4 o'clock at his home, 610 North Main Street.

Mr. Wood was stricken as he was about to accompany his wife on a trip to the business section. Although he had been in poor health for some time, news of his death was a shock to a host of friends.

Mr. Wood, a member of the firm of Wood & Stone on Water Street since September 4, 1911, was born in Townville, April 20, 1869. He attended public schools in Meadville and then worked for a time in a planing and grist mill.

In 1908 he purchased the Frank Raymond watch repair shop located on the present site of the Park Theater and three years later moved to 967 Water Street where a partnership was formed with Robert E. Stone. The partnership continued active through the succeeding years, and although Mr. Wood had not devoted his full time to the business recently, he was at the store Saturday morning.

Mr. Wood was a member of Cussewago Lodge of Odd Fellows and Olympus Encampment, No. 87.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Margery Wood; a son, Wallace Wood of Beaver Falls, and five grandchildren.
The remains are at the family residence where friends may call until 10 o'clock Tuesday morning when they will be removed to the Roofer funeral home, from which place services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment will be made in the Saegertown Cemetery.
