b 22 Dec 1831 Hill homestead, Fairfield Township, Crawford County
Son of Timothy and Sarah Montgomery Hill.
Company D, 12th Regiment, Iowa Veteran Volunteers
Taken prisoner at Shiloh when the group commanded by Prentis was surrounded and surrendered at the end of the first day of fighting at Shiloh. Eventually paroled and returned to his old unit. Reenlisted as a veteran volunteer in Dec 1863. Died 6 April 1865 while home in Crawford County while on sick leave. Buried in Conneaut Cemetery with other members of his family.
