William G. Smith, son of David Nelson Smith and Myra Jane Oakes was born in 1864 in Randolph Twp, Crawford County. He married Emma Rebeca Lopeno (March 27, 1877) on Dec 6, 1894 in Guys Mills, Crawford Co, PA. They had two children, Florence May, born May 25, 1897, and Clarence William, born April 27, 1902. They lived in Guys Mills until, at least, the 1910 census. According to the 1920 census, their residence was Meadville, Ward 2. William died May 28, 1928. He had three surviving brothers listed in his obituary: Herman Smith, Guys Mills; Willard Smith, Warren; and Beecher Smith, Cooperstown. During part of his life he worked at the Erie freight house in Meadville, PA. Byham Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. He was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

His widow, Emma Smith, later married Joseph Hoke (Oct. 1, 1880-Feb 15, 1965). Emma later died in 1967 and was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery between her husbands.
