Was at the Surrender of Cornwallis
William Butler was born in Ireland in 1743. He enlisted as a private in the Pennsylvania Line and was twice wounded. He fought in many battles in the New York and Jersey campaigns and served to the surrender of Cornwallis. He was a pensioner when he died in 1839 in Crawford County, PA.
