Titusville Man Dies In Cleveland Hospital.

Hiram Dennis Newton, 76, for 68 years a resident of Titusville and who died Friday in St. Lukes Hospital, Cleveland, following an operation, was one of the best known older citizens of the community. Brief mention was made of his death in Saturday's Herald.

His passing came as quite a shock to his many friends, for although he had been failing for some time the end was not expected so soon. Previous to his retirement about seven years ago he was engaged in the trucking business and made a name for himself in this vicinity.

Mr. Newton was born May 4, 1855 at Gerry, N.Y., he married Mary Prenatt, a Titusville girl, who died in January, 1929, and by her had the following children, all of whom survive: Mabel and Hiram Newton who lived with their father at his home on North Brown street ; Mrs. Lawrence Ruttan, West Spring Street; Mrs. Henry Ruttan, Bradford; Miss Jesse Newton and Mrs. J.W.Hughes, Plainfield, N.J.

A life long member of the Methodist church, Mr. Newton became very well liked and was known as a good Christian and a man of sterling character.Throughout his life he was devoted to his family, his friends and church. He had no living brothers or sisters.

Funeral services will be held in the First Methodist Episcopal church at 2 o'clock this afternoon with Rev. Roy F. Howe officiating. Rev. J.A. Galbrath former pastor of the Methodist church here , and Rev. William Paul Darling, of the Congregational Mission church will assist Rev. Howe.

Arrangements for burial were made by E.L.Cummins, mortician, to whose parlors the body was brought from Cleveland. Following the services in the church, interment will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery.
