NEWTON, Mary PRENATT
Well Known Woman Died Early Thursday, Mrs. Hiram D. Newton resided in Titusville nearly forty years, funeral Saturday.
Mrs. Mary Prenatt Newton, wife of Hiram D. Newton, a mention of whose death was made in the Herald yesterday, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Thursday at the family home, 318 North Brown Street. While she had not been well for the past year, she had been seriously ill only about ten days and pneumonia was the cause of her death.
Mrs. Newton was the daughter of Xavier and Mary Prenatt and she was born near Sugar Lake on September 29, 1866. She had always resided in this vicinity and about 38 years ago was united in marriage with Mr. Newton, this city, having been their home practically ever since.
Mrs. Newton attended the First Methodist church and was held in high esteem s a woman of noble attributes, kind and loving in her family an obliging neighbor, and friend.
To Mr. and Mrs. Newton were born six children who survive as follows: Miss Jesse Newton and Mrs. James Hughes of Plainfield, N.J., Mrs. Henry Ruttan and Mrs. Lawrence Ruttan of this city, Miss Mabel Newton and Hiram Newton Jr. residing at home. There are nine grandchildren, also three sisters, Mrs. Charles Gilbertson of Santa Cruz, Cal., Mrs. J.L.Simpson of Morgantown, W.Va., and Miss. Nettie Prenatt of Lynn, Mass. and one brother, Fred Prenatt of Sugar Lake.
Services in memory of Mrs. Newton will be conducted from the family home , 318 North Brown Street, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. F.M. Redinger, pastor of the First M.E. church, officiating. It is expected that Rev. J.A. Galbraith, D.D. of Ridgeway, a former pastor , will assist in the services and the interment will be made in Woodlawn cemetery.
