Fleming in Crawford and Erie between 1828 and 1837
I have record that a Daniel Fleming, with his wife Elizabeth and three children – Samuel, Ellen and Jennet all arrived on 17 March 1828 on the Robert Edwards in NYC (I have the ship’s manifest). They apparently spent time in your part of the world as the family added three more children – Edward White (b. 22/4/1831 in Meadville, Crawford, PA), Mary Ann (b. 14/9/1832 in Erie County, PS) and Lucy (b. 5/4/1837 in Erie County, PA). This information is from a verbal family history and needs “proofs”. I know that sometime between 1833 and 1837 Daniel visited York in Canada West and made application for a land grant there, I have the petitions. In 1836 he was awarded 200 acres. Given Lucy’s birth information, this means the family migrated and settled in Canada after that birth date.
Other than the date of arrival in America in 1828 and the Land petitions in Canada West, all else is suspect. Can you help me with this research. I would be willing to spend $100.00 for substantive leads and proofs, more for proofs if such exist.
In several records Daniel is said to be a Drysalter which means he worked with spices, etc. for a living. In his land petition he claims a disability from war wounds suffered when in the Royal Navy in the Peninsular War.
I have been poking about in Erie and Crawford Counties through the Internet but to no avail. If you can help me we should make the appropriate arrangements. Thank you for listening.
