Julia, the daughter of Richard and Sarah GILSON, of Gilson Ridge, married George FULLER on August 1, 1834. Their son Richard Gilson FULLER, born in March of 1836, is my 3rd great-grandfather. A farmer, Richard was married to Mary Jane BINNEY who taught school for many years. Their son George is my 2nd great grandfather (b. 1857, d. 1916), an oil well driller believed married to Myrtle BAUGHER (per a wedding certificate of his daughter Mabel b. 1886, d. 1969, and George's obituary). George left Sparta, first for Sistersville, Tyler, West Virginia, then other oil producing areas, returning before his death to Saegertown, PA. He died in the State Hospital, Warren, Conewango, PA, his death certificate indicating he was a widow at that time. George's daughter Mabel lived with her grandparents, Richard and Mary Jane, as of the 1900 census. George also had son, George H, my great grandfather (b. 1890, d. 1967) who, as of the 1900 census, was living in Grant, Pleasants, West Virginia, a boarder possibly with his father (not certain since no 1900 census record has been found for either of his parents, George or Myrtle). George H. married Margaret Marie "Maggie" SHORTLE (b. 1889, d.1980) in Pleasants, West Virginia, 1909. By 1920, George H. and Maggie had moved to Akron, Ohio, with two children Glenn Nicholas (b. 1909, d. 1968) and Myrtle Ella (b. 1911, d. 1987). Glenn is my grandfather. He married Mildred NEITZ (b. 1911, d. 1944) in 1932. My father, Richard G. FULLER, was born in 1933.
Other parts of Pennsylvania were home to other ancestors: Most recently until the last half of the 20th century, the Shortles/Shortells in Bradford, McKean, PA; the Neitz of Chapman and Penn Townships, Snyder, PA; the Reifschneiders of New Hanover Township, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
